Who Left A Tree, Then A Coffin In The Library?
Who is leaving masterful paper sculptures in this library?

“Last spring, Julie Johnstone, a librarian at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh, was wandering through a reading room when she saw, sitting alone on a random table, a little tree.
It was made of twisted paper and was mounted on a book.

Gorgeously crafted, it came with a gold-leafed eggshell broken in two, each half filled with little strips of paper with phrases on them. When reassembled properly, the strips became a poem about birds, “A Trace of Wings” by Edwin Morgan.
What was this?”

Earlier studies linking social networking with increases in brain regions relating to social ability were flawed, but this new data from macaques may give you some ammunition in telling your parents why you’re on Tumblr so much!

But with the help of a few monkeys in England, teenagers everywhere may now have more ammunition to use against parents. A study published in the November 4 issue of Science studied 23 macaques assigned to live either alone, with a friend or in a groups of from three to seven fellow primates. The upshot: the monkeys in the larger groups had more gray matter in brain areas linked to processing social information

Nephila Plumipes: Golden Orb Weaving Spiders
This handsome spider web has been made by a very young Golden Orb Weaving spider (Nephila plumipes).
It’s positioned just on the edge of its mother’s web. One of the golden strands supporting the mother’s massive web can be seen running across the top of the photo. Being such a small spider, and producing such thin silk, the diffraction of the sunlight is more spectacular than that produced by the mother’s web.
Note that the depth of field of the photo is such that the top half of the web is out of focus. As you can see, this produces a different rendition of the colors compared to the focused part of the web. When the camera lens is next to the web, we intercept a wide range of viewing angles. So, we observe not a single color but a spectrum of color.
